Guest Editors' Introduction: Special Issue on Top Picks in Hardware and Embedded Security

Security is a key enabler for embedded systems, Intenet of things (IoT) devices, and cyber-physical systems. Security is, however, a complex problem that can be tackled successfully only if addressed in a holistic way. To achieve this, it is highly imperative to possess a complete understanding of all the threats that these embedded devices would have to face, to provide designers with the appropriate tools to spot weaknesses, and to realize secure systems. These two goals cannot be easily reached, since the literature on security is spread over a large number of conferences and journals often "belonging" to different communities.
