Direct measurement of vibrational relaxation and dephasing of molecules by spectrally resolved two-colour three-pulse photon echoes

Spectrally resolved two-colour three-pulse stimulated photon echoes have been investigated on a femtosecond time scale for Rhodamine B and Rhodamine 101 in Methanol. The time evolution of the spectra of the PE signals and their dependence on the wavelength of the excitation pulses and the structure of the molecules are analysed. The dynamics of the vibrational relaxation and dephasing have been determined directly from the wavelength dependence of the two-colour three-pulse photon echo signals. The influence of rotational motion of the N(C2H5)(2) group on the echo intensity is discussed.
