Based on the review of railway wireless communication systems development, we categorized and researched the railway wireless communication applications. Then we analyzed the advantages and shortcomings of the railway utilizations of the newest broadband wireless communication technologies, which include 3G, WiFi and WiMAX. At last, we got some conclusions on data transport ability, reliability, networking capacity and preferred railway environment. These conclusions can be references of the design of the actual railway broadband communication systems.
