Survival after resection for adenocarcinoma of the colon -: Comparison between right and left colon

Introduction - The aim of this study was to see if there is any difference in survival between cancer of the right and left Colon. Materials and Methods: This is a retrospective review of the charts of 150 patients treated for carcinoma of the colon between 1995 and 2000. Many variables were compared and analyzed. The author contacted by phone with patients or your families to check evolution. Results: Patients with tumors located in the sigmoid and descending colon had better 5-year survival than the rest of the locations and was statistical significant. Conclusion : There was not obvious explanation for this finding, but left colon cancer had better survival than right colon cancer, as expect as a whole more advanced lesions and poorly differentiated tumors had a worse outcome but were not different for right and left colon.
