Chinese literature has been drawing concern from World Literature Today since 1935. From the 1990s on, WLT shows more interest in Chinese literature with more Chinese writers and works reviewed more frequently. Since the 1980s it has invited some Chinese writers and scholars to work as judges for Neustadt Prize for International Literature sponsored by WLT, and some Chinese writers have been elected as the candidates for the prize. WLT is also actively involved in the newly-established Newman Prize for Chinese Literature by carrying articles about the candidates and Mo Yan, the first winner of this award in 2008. All this indicates, to some extent, the increasing contribution and influence of Chinese literature in the world.
