The characteristics of different TiO2 powders and its effect on varistor electrical properties were investigated extensively in this work. The results indicate that the purity, particle size distribution and particle morphology of the TiO2 powders have great influences on the electrical properties of the final varistors. However, the particle size and crystalline phase of the TiO2 powders have no obvious influences on the electrical properties of TiO2 varistor. Thus, the choice of proper TiO2 raw material is the key to manufacture high quality and low cost varistor.
