摘要
October 1011 is Carinthia's most exuberantly celebrated commemoration day, recalling the day of plebiscite and its preceding border fights from 1918-1920 with the United Kingdom of Serbia, Croatia, and Slovenia. However, it is not only the day, when Carinthia officially - under assistance of leading politicians - recalls a glorious past in favor of Austrian democracy, but it is also the day of nationalist reminiscences, anti-Slavic resentments, and patriarchal and military commemorative performances. Thereby, World War 11 has become a well integrated part of the general commemorative discourse. This paper is devoted to the questions how these different historical events get rhetorically correlated; how these interrelations are represented on the level of symbols and memorials and how the national socialist Carinthian past is referred to. With respect to the interpretation of history it can be said that the anniversary commemorations of the year 2000 - for the first time performed under a conservative and rightwing governmental majority - left a bitter taste of revisionism.
