Synthesis, characterization, antimicrobial and cytotoxicity studies of some transition metal complexes with gemifloxacin

The preparation and characterization are reported of the new solid complexes formed from the reaction of gemifloxacin with Y(III), Zr(IV), La(III), Ce(IV), and U(VI) at room temperature. The infrared spectra proof that metal-ligand coordination involves one oxygen atom of carboxylic group and the oxygen atom of pyridone group. The kinetic parameters of thermogravimetric (TGA) and its differential (DTG), such as activation energy, entropy of activation, enthalpy of activation, and Gibbs free energy evaluated using Coats-Redfern and Horowitz-Metzger equations for ligand and complexes were carried out at different n values. The calculated bond length and force constant, F(U=O), in the uranyl complex are 1.751 C-0 and 642.62 N m(-1), respectively. The antimicrobial activity of ligand and metal complexes was tested against some of the gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria and fungi. The in vitro growth inhibitory activity of the synthesized compounds against human breast carcinoma (MCF-7) and colon carcinoma (HCT-116) cell lines was investigated.
