摘要
In modern waste management systems the majority of plastic waste should be treated using the most advanced recycling methods as well energy recovery. Although recycling is considered as more environmentally friendly solution, the energy recovery seems to have its advantages. In some cases it is ideal solution for instance due to lower purity requirements of feed material. In the manuscript the basic fuel properties of polyolefins derived from municipal waste stream has been presents. The estimation of emission from thermal utilization of this type of waste is presents as well. It is the basis for evaluation of end point environmental impact. The results are given in 6 major impact categories: human health, eutrophication, acidification, abiotic depletion, climate change and photo-oxidant formation. The evaluation presented in the manuscript could be treated as an argument in discussion on potential environmental impact of the waste polyolefin utilization and comparison of thermal processes with recycling of plastic waste.
