摘要
The analysis of data from high spatial resolution satellite-mounted infrared sensors has the potential to monitor the water stored by small dams in semi-arid areas. A simple method of analysis is described and particular attention is given to selecting an appropriate threshold level to discriminate water from non-water land cover. The use of a Geographic Information System (GIS) allows further discrimination of the areas of water from other areas, such as deep shadow, which have been classified incorrectly and facilitates the automatic calculation of dam capacities. The success of the technique is demonstrated on data from two regions in Botswana.
