摘要
English is the dominant international language of communication, which includes the promulgation of engineering ideas and concepts. It is also the unchallenged language of the Internet. Consequently, there is an advantage to students to be taught in English, something that translates, among other things, to a marketing advantage for universities. The literature demonstrates that in any attempt to teach communication to engineering students, the most effective means will incorporate exercises in the disciplinary subject matter. This is especially true when an objective is to promote the correct use of English by non-native speakers. Teaching professional content in English almost axiomatically meets this criterion. In this paper, the authors reflect on lessons learned from the literature and they share their personal experiences in teaching in English in Asia and North Europe.
