摘要
This study focuses on the relationship between working in an open office - as opposed to working in an enclosed workplace - and job satisfaction and performance. The mediating role of distraction and perceived control is also examined. A total of 801 employees working in different organizations participated in a cross-sectional survey. This study found a significant negative correlation between working in an open office and job satisfaction and performance. The results also support serial multiple mediation. Open offices are associated with increased distraction and this reduces the perception of control, which in turn was associated with lower job satisfaction and performance. The theoretical and managerial impact of this study lies in exposing a mechanism that can explain the relationship between working in an open office and employee wellbeing and performance. Based on the results, we conclude the article by outlining the theoretical and practical implications.
