The influence of various size of AlN starting powders on the mechanical properties and microstructure of SiC-AlN composites

摘要
For obtaining a dense sample, SiC-AIN composition (80:20 wt%) were sintered by hot-pressing at 1950degreesC under 40MPa for 30min in Ar atmosphere. The size of SiC powder was 3.13 mum. The various size of AIN starting powders was 1.07, 1.47, 2.08, 3.21 and 5.90 mum, respectively. The bending strength and fracture toughness of sintered SiC-AIN composites were measured. Then, the microstructure of the cracks, fracture surface were observed by EDAX and SEM. The importance of AIN had been proved in the SiC-AIN composite. In this study, effect of the change of AIN starting powder sizes on boundary would be explained in terms of reinforcing and toughening of SiC-AIN composites.
