Pharmacotherapy of the cardio-renal syndrome

Comorbidities of heart and kidney diseases have already been recognised in human medicine for several years, and are known as cardio-renal syndrome (CRS). In veterinary medicine, these entities have attracted more and more notice recently. Analogue to human patients, the co-occurrence of heart and renal diseases in dogs and cats is associated with a higher risk of morbidity as well as mortality in comparison to the occurrence of dysfunctionin in only one organ. The successful therapy of a cardiac and/or renal disease contributes to the prevention of the development of a CRS or at least of its progression. As a result, the patient's physical resilience as well as life expectancy can be increased. In the following, the aims and objectives of CRS treatment and the drugs used for this purpose will be elucidated.
