Magnetic properties of Mn1-xMxBe2 (M = Co, Ni, Cu) and MnBe2-xMx (M = Cu, B, Al)

摘要
The occurrence of ferromagnetism was investigated in the Laves-phase compounds Mn1-xMxBe2 (M=Co, Ni, Cu) and MnBe2-xMx (M=Cu, B, Al) through magnetization measurements. The magnetic susceptibility is enhanced when Mn is replaced by Co and shows a maximum at about x=0.6. Ferromagnetic behavior is observed for specimens with a Co content of 0.3<x<0.9. However, the magnetization does not saturate in high magnetic fields and shows a linear field dependence up to 100 kOe, suggesting the existence of weak ferromagnetism. The results of measurements for the specimens Mn1-xMxBe2 (M = Co, Ni, Cu) have suggested that the number of valence electrons of the transition-metal atoms is important for the occurrence of the weak ferromagnetism.
