Therapeutic approaches for survivors of childhood sexual abuse: A review

Increasing numbers of adult clients present to psychological services with distress which may be consequent upon childhood sexual abuse. Little systematic research evidence exists to guide clinicians or service managers on the treatment of choice for this group of clients. The major approaches are reviewed and an assessment of their research base is provided. Some innovative approaches are outlined, and consideration is given to contextual issues, The implications for service providers are examined, especially the need for varying levels of training a co-ordinated service and supervision.
