Does media coverage influence the spread of drug addiction?

In this paper, a three dimensional drug model is constructed to investigate the impact of media coverage on the spread and control of drug addiction. The dynamical behavior of the model is studied by using the basic reproduction number Ro. The drug-free equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable if R-o < 1 and the drug addiction equilibrium is locally stable if R-o > 1. The results demonstrate that the media effect in human population cannot change the stabilities of equilibria but can affect the number of drug addicts. Sensitivity analyses are performed to seek for effective control measures for drug treatment. Numerical simulations are given to support the theoretical results. (C) 2017 Elsevier B.V.
