Study on treatment of methyl-orange in water by derivable oxidation of peroxydisulfate

S2O82- can turn into Ag2+ and SO4- with Ag+ catalyst, and change into SO4-, under ultraviolet radiation (E (Ag2+)/(0)(Ag+) = 1.989v, ESO4-./(2-0)(SO4) = 3.64v). The paper studies degradation of methyl-orange in S2O82-+Ag+ system and S2O82 + UV system separately, with measurements of UV spectrogram and TOC value. In S2O82- + Ag+ system at pH = 1, the extent of decolorization is up to 100% on 5 mu mol/L methyl-orange after 8 min reaction, and suspension grains appeared after 2 hour reaction with removal rate of 8.5% on TOC. In S2O82 + UV system at pH = 1 and oxygen supplied, the extent of decolorization is up to 100% on 5 mu mol/L methyl-orange after 6min reaction, and removal rate on TOC is 9.5% after 2 hour reaction. Under the same conditions, the removal rate of TOC is 10% and 36% by Fenton method and UV/Fenton method.
