Herge, creator of Tintin, has attracted controversy for his political views and actions during the Nazi occupation of Belgium. The recent publication The Herge Myth (2001) re-ignited the question of Herge's war record. This article responds to the aforementioned pamphlet by simply exploring the key facts from the period. While of course the record is not entirely perfect the article offers a more nuanced view of Herge's war than has been offered in recent articles in the press. The article is developed from research for my biography of Herge to be published by Flammarion, Paris.
