An historiographical essay on the policy of parity

The "policy of parity" until 1928 has been a hotly contested theme in Norwegian economic political history. This article reviews central contributions to the debate in a political perspective. The main questions are thus: How has the process of decision-making been described in previous research, and to what extent do these accounts correspond to what we today find reason to believe actually happened? In particular, the focus is on the accounts of Wilhelm Keilhau and Francis Sejersted, as in their respective periods these have been the basis for much of the debate. In conclusion, the article gives more support to Sejersted than to Keilhau. Nevertheless, Sejersted's account ought to be partially revised. This is due to findings in source material both in archives and in parliamentary papers, which were not utilised by Sejersted.
