摘要
AISI 420 stainless steel samples have been nitrided by cathodic cage technique with addition of methane to reduce chromium nitride precipitation, increase hardness and wear resistance without presence of characteristic defects inherent to the ionic nitriding. Microhardness profile and X-ray analysis confirm formation of layer with high hardness constituted for two regions: one internal region composed for carbon and another composed for nitrogen.
