摘要
Background: Hyperemesis gravidarum (HG), the most severe form of pregnancy-associated nausea and vomiting, is accompanied by weight loss, dehydration, electrolyte derangements, nutritional deficiencies and inadequate caloric intake(1). The therapy is focused on intravenous rehydration and restoration of electrolyte deficiencies. Total parenteral nutrition (TPN) is rarely necessary for adequate nutrition. Case report: We present the case of a 30-years-old black pregnant woman with HG who needed TPN twice, with a good maternal and perinatal outcome. Conclusions: Successful outcomes can be achieved in pregnant women who need TPN. When parenteral therapy is required attention must be given to potential complications. Peripherally inserted central catheters may be preferable when parenteral nutrition is required during pregnancy.
