In the framework of a research project different approaches have been utilized for the performance of a risk analysis in the context of the Seveso II Directive. In this paper, the Human Factors (HF) analysis performed in the context of a Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA) is presented. A generic framework for a HF analysis in a QRA is firstly described. Then, some major aspects of the extensive analysis of the working environment conducted are outlined including the qualitative results achieved, i.e. environmental and contextual conditions and performance influencing factors affecting human behaviour in such a way, that only very pessimistic and estimated quantitative results could have been achieved. Therefore, the qualitative results revealing deficiencies in the safety management system are documented in this research project for discussion with the operator of the establishment. Finally, the applicability, the power and the efficiency of a systematic HF analysis in the framework of a QRA is clearly demonstrated - in consideration of the extended insights obtained.
