摘要
The present research sought to determine the predictive value of some psychosocial variables such as stress, coping, locus of control, hardiness and social support on academic achievement and adaptation to a military institution by venezuelan cadets. Results indicated that cadets showed a proper psychological profile at the beginning of their careers, except for their low internal locus of control. However, more internal locus of control, restrained coping and less use of escapist and avoidance behaviors, together with stronger support for their acts and cognitions explained part of the variance in academic achievement, as was to be expected. Higher levels of stress distinguished cadets that adapted to the military institution from those that did not.
