摘要：
The main objective of this paper is to present the number of relations between the UMTS 3GPP standards and the Internet IETF standards needed to support the implementation of the IP multimedia subsystem, that will enable mobile operators to offer their customers multimedia services based on and built upon Internet applications, services and protocols. This major shift in the UMTS architecture will be feasible only with a tight cooperation between 3GPP and IETF, in order to introduce all the required 'mobile extensions' in the basic IETF protocols and to synchronise the relevant time plans.
