摘要：

A comprehensive understanding of police history contributes significantly to determining the vectors of police development as an important state institution. The directions of French police transformation in the revolutionary years 17891799 are reviewed in the article. Rethinking the police concept, revising the police legacy of the Old Order and adapting it to the natural legal requirements of individual freedom that was solidified in the legal documents of that era suggest that the French revolution played an important role in developing police as a specific law-enforcement institute in the modern sense.
