摘要
This paper considers the behavior of a crack located in the vicinity of and orientated parallel to the weld line in high tensile steel - mild steel bi-metal plates bonded by electron beam welding. Thermoelastic stress analysis was used to investigate the elastic stress distribution around the crack tip. A thermographic camera was used to investigate the rise in temperature around the crack tip under plastic deformation. The crack opening displacement and fracture strength of the bonded specimens were compared to those of unwelded specimens made from the base metals. The effect of the material dissimilarity and inhomogeneity on the fracture characteristics was revealed.
