Computer Self-Efficacy and Job Relevance Analysis of Teacher Acceptance of Information Technology

Although use of information technology (IT) is common in classrooms, some teachers are resistant to new technologies as supportive teaching tools. This study proposes a causal model for investigating teacher acceptance of technology. Policy recommendations for school administrators and government agencies are also presented in this article. This study received 258 effective replies from teachers at public and private universities. This investigation selected the overhead projector as the new technology supporting teaching. The overhead projectors are gradually being introduced into classrooms in Taiwan. The Lisrel was applied to test the proposed hypotheses. Overall, model and data fit was good and had satisfactory explanatory power. Most hypotheses were accepted. Computer self-efficacy had a strongly positive effect on perceived ease of use and teacher intention to use. Mutual fitness and job relevance had a significantly positive effect on perceived usefulness.
