UNIVERSITY AND PROFESSIONAL TRAINING

The changes brought in by the Bologna agreement to provide a common structure to archaeology degrees and academic qualifications across Europe has major implications in the way in which we teach and practice archaeology. Archaeology has special problems according to the status of the subject (a subject in its own right or part of another discipline such as histoty), the aims of university training (a general education or one oriented to obtaining professional qualifications), and there are also implications about how individuals maintain their professional expertise.
