摘要
Constipation is a common digestive problem in childhood and has a great impact on patient's life in both biological and psychosocial aspects. Although it is usually inadequately assessed by pediatricians, there is a solid consensus in the literature concerning its physiopathology. The use of laxatives has been shown to be effective in the resolution of most cases. Ninety five patients were recruited in their first visit at a tertiary hospital and their clinical features were evaluated after the establishment of laxative therapy and behavioral interventions. In agreement to the literature, we have observed that treatment is effective in improving the stool pattern, thus making the defecation easier. Gradually, the stool-withholding behavior is abolished and the cycle of the disease is interrupted.
