Rhetoric, argumentation and temporality

The temporal dimension is insufficiently taken into account in current work in argumentation studies, though it may contribute centrally to the construction of meaning and hence to an understanding of the argumentative orientation of certain discourses. This article aims to examine some of the processes by which argumentative discourse is given a temporal dimension, and to identify the functions such a dimension assumes. The reflection will be based on a case study: the speeches of politicians issued from the "New Right" in Argentina - and in particular, speeches by its main representative, Mauricio Macri.
