摘要
intelligence encompasses abilities to perceive, reason, learn, and infer from incomplete information. The capability of approximation for the purpose of comparison, pattern recognition, reasoning and decision making, is also a manifestation of intelligence There are many concepts of approximation, examples of which include imprecision, uncertainty, fuzziness, and belief, These concepts are not identical even though the associated methods of information representation and processing may display similarities. The presentation will explore several concepts of approximation, in this context Advanced automation of industrial processes may require ''intelligent'' monitoring, quality assessment, self-tuning, and supervisory control. The presentation will describe several industrial applications where fuzzy logic has been employed in the representation and processing of knowledge for the purpose of ''intelligent'' decision making that is associated with such tasks.
