Contemporary History Association: Origins and early years

Professional associations among historians have recently become a main issue in European history of historiography. They let researchers have a broader view of the way that disciplines manage themselves, their epistemological and ideological strains, and the way they spread their shadow over democratic Academy and Society. The Spanish Asociacion de Historia Contemporanea was launched in a crucial moment when Democratic Historiography was in the making. Thus, the complexity of this instant reflects the essential tensions of the downfal of Francoist historiography, and the birth of a new contemporary history.
