An Improved Image Compression Based On JPEG-LS

JPEG-LS are a new kind of simple and rapid method for lossless and near-lossless compression of continuous-tone images, which is not a simple extension of jpeg. It is conceived by the algorithm of LOCO-I (low complexity lossless compression for images). As we all know, the algorithm of JPEG-LS is an efficient lossless image compression algorithm, however it doesn't receive the best results. In this paper, we present an improved method for JPEG-LS. For a coding block, the initial value zero is replaced with the current pixels when parameters in the first row have been filled before coding parameters were initialized. Experimental results show that the proposed method makes an improved on compression ratio.
