Engineering education on liquid bio-fuels in India: a scope of the future

The search for alternate fuels has geared up globally in recent years. Developed countries are now very much focused on using cleaner fuels for transportation and other needs. However, a developing country like India is still striving to find the sources and technologies to utilise alternate fuels in the transport and power sectors. Although India has a wide area of waste and agricultural lands, the availability and use of bio-fuels is quite small. This is due to the lack of awareness among the public and the lack of education on bio-fuels. Effective education on bio-fuels among engineers and the technologists will definitely accelerate the process of bio-fuel harvesting and utilisation in India. This will also help other countries utilise bio-fuels for future energy needs. In this paper, the authors describe the concept of engineering education on bio-fuels in India, which, in turn, will impact on its energy security in the near future.
