摘要
The theme of homosexuality exists in many of Tennessee Williams' plays, though he deals with it in a very oblique way. This can be best exemplified through the perspective of "gaze". Critics first applied the reductive and homophobic transvestite reading to Williams' plays, and then to the sophisticated and liberated camp reading. Through his oblique depiction of homosexuality, Williams attempts to challenge and subvert the stereotyped images of gays who are in the crisis of masculinity and who are living on the margin of society.
