摘要
Century-old letters now translated provide an intimate look at Jung in relation to a colleague, Hans Schmid-Guisan, in 1915, before the writing of Psychological Types, as they show the correspondents' grounding in Bergson's sense of a creative life force that diverges or dissociates into the rational and the irrational, or intelligence and instinct. When one develops in an individual, the other atrophies, thereby making complementary differences of personality type both dynamic and painful. Beebe and Falzeder collaborate in introducing, editing, and translating the letters, which show the fire of real people experiencing differences as they try to understand and accept them.
