摘要
During Japanese colonial period (1895-1983), a Japanese cartoonist Kunishima Suiba depicted Taiwan with a single-cell comic each year. The graphic collocated with a short sentence to map out the regulation, confusion, disaster and so forth in Taiwan. Based on Postcolonialism and symbiotic analysis, this study conducts qualitative research in-depth to discuss the contradictions and conflicts of the self-awareness and identity of colonists. Investigating more than forty of single-cell comics by Kunishima Suiba, depicted the developing process of Taiwan for more than 40 years in the early twentieth century. By lines and strokes from those comics showing the development and evolution of Taiwan is the epitome of colonial history. With theoretical viewpoint of Phenomenography discusses the achievement of Kunishima Suiba in Taiwanese historical records, and applies the Hybridity theory to compare and contrast the mixture of shape and style of contemporary art, Kunishima Suiba created, to record Taiwanese history. This implication of design and image shows a new way of thinking in Taiwan.
