摘要
This article examines the mental mechanism of the genesis of the war through the prism of literary and journalistic texts, mass rumors, visual images-everything that formed public sentiments, in which forebodings of a world war ripened. The author focuses on the spread of emotions of ressentiment, which hid the national trauma of the Russo-Japanese war and the revolution of 1905-1907. In 1913-1914, public sentiments were characterized by a mixture of military anxiety and patriotic euphoria, which increased the importance of rumors and the significance of the emotional factor in politics. In particular, this is obvious regarding the mechanism of making the decision on full mobilization, in which rumors played a significant role.
