摘要：
The Evros prefecture is located in north-eastern Greece and has frontiers with Bulgaria and Turkey. There is a significant agricultural and industrial production, metallurgical activities and serious problems of produced and imported pollution. This research deals with the hygienic control of potable water in the Evros prefecture, with respect to concentration levels of manganese, iron, cadmium and lead ions. In this paper, 134 potable water samples collected from the Evros prefecture have been examined. The samples were collected during 2006 and are representative of all municipalities of the Evros prefecture. The analysis process held in the laboratory of Hygiene, Medical School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. The research reveals that in several samples, manganese and iron concentrations exceeded the acceptable limits for potable water set by the Hellenic Joint Ministerial Act Y2/2600/2001 'Quality of the water intended for human consumption'.
