η Carinae in the mid-infrared

We present high angular resolution (FWHM similar to 0." 9 - 1." 6) observations of complex mid-infrared (4.8 - 18.2 mu m) structure in the eta Carinae nebula. Our observations reveal several condensations within the inner Homunculus, as well as a toroidal structure visible at 18.2 mu m. We calculate optical depth and temperature maps of the nebula. Optical depth maps show bipolar symmetric lobes which may be the result of viewing an inclined disk. Finally, mid-IR SEDs of the central core and a NE companion reveal for the first time the spatial variation of the silicate feature within the nucleus of the eta Car nebula.
