Cordonal cruralgia caused by thoracic disc herniation. Case report

Cordonal neuralgia is a rare entity, usually stated as sciatica, The authors report a unique case of a 44-year-old man who presented with a short history of right cruralgia and sudden episodes of weakness in both lower limbs; neurological examination depicted superficial hypoesthesia with an upper level of T9 and right Babinski sign. Magnetic resonance imaging showed a large central disc herniation at the T11-T12 level. After surgical removal of the herniated disc, all the clinical symptoms and signs cleared. The pain production mechanism is discussed. It is concluded that thoracic disc herniation should be considered and excluded when patients present with cruralgia.
