Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Groundwater Leachate Leakage Monitoring of Sanitary Landfill

摘要
This study describes the design and implementation of a system that monitors different environmental parameters of a sanitary landfill. The system is composed of two separate measuring device that are intended to determine the groundwater quality and greenhouse gas concentration of the sanitary landfill. The gas sensors used were the MQ-135, MQ-4 sensors and DHT22 temperature and humidity sensor while the water quality sensors include the Analog pH sensor, EC sensor and DS18B20 sensor. The data from each sensor are processed by Arduino Uno. These data are then sent to cloud for storage and monitoring through ThingSpeak which is an IoT platform. An SMS alert is also sent by the monitoring system when at least one parameter exceeds its threshold value. The correlation between the different parameters were obtained by calculating the Pearson Correlation coefficient that results to a low degree of correlation between air temperature and CO2 concentrations as well as with humidity and CH4 concentrations. The correlation between pH and temperature was moderate and a low correlation was observed between temperature and EC.
