摘要：

Surface modelling techniques based on parametric polynomials offer simple interactive design and efficient interrogation techniques, and are the foundation of most current CADCAM systems. However, they are known to have limitations in respect of their shape defining capabilities and the efficacy with which users can make detailed adjustments to the model. A new point-based approach to surface modelling using solely geometric constructions, is presented to overcome these problems. Techniques for surface interrogation, visualisation and manipulation are introduced and industrial case studies are presented.
