A Romanian Hegelian: D.D. Rosca

A young Rumanian, coming to Paris in the 1920s, chose for his doctoral thesis the influence of Hegel upon Taine--a subject that was unusual for the time and which, perhaps, would never have been completed without the moral support of Lucien Herr. Published in Paris in 1928, Rosca's thesis must be counted among the first signs of a renewal of Hegelian studies in France. Unfortunately the division of Europe after the second World War has meant that the subsequent activities of this brilliant philosopher of Hegelianism have been restricted to his country.
