ARCHAEOLOGY OF THE LATE MEDIEVAL RURAL LANDSCAPES IN THE NORTH WESTERN PENINSULA

The aim of this paper is double. On one hand it seeks to make a brief critical overview of the main findings made in recent years in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula, indicating regional differences and the heterogeneity of the available sample. Secondly, a proposal of synthetic and systemic analysis of early medieval landscape of northwestern Peninsular in the light of the archaeological discoveries made in recent years. In particular, it argues the importance of analyzing the geography of power taking into account the contextual relationships established between the various archaeological records analyzed ( rural settlements, power centers, cities) from a holistic perspective. Preliminarily makes some general reflections on the nature of the findings, methods of intervention and the theory with which these deposits have been analyzed.
