QCD in beauty and charm physics: New results from CLEOII

With a data sample of 2.6 million <b(b)over bar> pairs and 4.8 million <c(c)over bar> pairs produced at the CESR e(+)e(-) storage ring, the CLEOII collaboration has new results on several poorly known decay processes. We have measured the branching ratio and the form factor f(+)(q(2)) in the (B-0) over bar --> D(+)l(-)<(nu)over bar>. The differential decay rate, analyzed in terms of the variable w = v . v', agrees with the HQET prediction for the form factor at w = 1, F(1), and its slope rho(2). Further, we have determined the branching ratios for semileptonic B- decay to the p-wave charmed mesons, D-2(*0) and D-1(0), and made the first statistically significant measurement of the branching ratio for D*+ --> D(+)gamma.
