摘要
We compute the hydrological excitation of the Chandler wobble due to variations of soil moisture and of the water equivalent of accumulated snow, and we compare the result, together with the atmospheric and oceanic excitations, with the observed excitation. The result shows that the average energy of the hydrological excitation in the Chandler wobble band is relatively small and can account for only about 10% of the observed excitation. However, combination of the hydrological and atmospheric excitations will clearly increase the squared coherence with the observed excitation, and this at a raised confidence level. In this sense, the variation in continental water storage is also an important contributor to the excitation of the Chandler wobble.
