摘要
It is well known that high temperature and shock waves can be induced on a target by irradiation using a pulsed laser, The shock wave spreads into the inside of the target momentarily. This phenomenon is called laser shock that may induce structural modification of materials and lead to the development of a new process of the advanced materials, In this study. structural modification of a glassy carbon was conducted by irradiation using a KrF excimer laser. The projections of spherical conformation were seen on the irradiated area. While the structure and the hardness obtained from the sample surface except the projections were similar to those obtained from a nontreated glassy carbon. those obtained from the projections ere similar to those obtained from a mechanically hard amorphous carbon. the so-called diamond-like Carbon.
