The current tendencies of the employment of older people in the European Union

2012 was the year of the active elderly age and the solidarity between generations in the European Union. In spite of it the Member States either directly or indirectly try to restrict the possibilities of the employment of older people. All these raise problems in connection with the labour market and equal opportunities. The paper explores the regulation and practical contradictions, which in connection with age discrimination characterize the law of the EU. Old persons with considerable experiences should get stronger role and it is possible only by raising the level of equal treatment towards them. (C) The Authors. Published by Elsevier Ltd.
